Overview

AegisGates uses AI to continuously monitor your camera feeds and generate plain-English descriptions of what is happening — called narratives. This article explains what the AI detects, how narratives are generated, and how long your history is stored.

What the AI Detects

The AegisGates AI analyses video frames from your camera and identifies:

  • People — presence, movement, and activities
  • Actions — walking, running, sitting, standing, falling, and more
  • Poses — body language and physical posture
  • Objects — doors, vehicles, and other items of interest (varies by camera angle)

What Are Narratives?

A narrative is a short, plain-English description generated from what the AI sees. For example:

> \*"A person entered the front door area at 14:32. They appeared to be carrying a bag and moved toward the hallway."\*

Narratives give you a quick, readable summary of activity — no need to scrub through hours of video.

Viewing Your Activity History

  • Log in to AegisGates and go to the Dashboard
  • Select a camera
  • Use the Activity History timeline to browse narratives by date and time
  • Click any narrative to see the associated details

How Long Is Data Stored?

  • Activity narratives and alerts are stored for 90 days
  • After 90 days, data is automatically and permanently deleted
  • No video footage is stored on AegisGates servers — only the AI-generated narratives and metadata
For full details, see our Data Retention Policy.

Alerts

If the AI detects something that matches your alert settings, it creates an alert — a flagged narrative that is highlighted in your activity history. See our Setting Up and Managing Alerts article for more.
