Overview
Hikvision is one of the most reliable and widely installed commercial security camera brands in the world, widely chosen for building and property management and commercial facilities. However, many business owners struggle with standard motion alerts: windblown branches, passing vehicle headlights, and insects create dozens of false notifications every night.
Upgrading to Hikvision’s proprietary AcuSense or DeepinMind servers often requires thousands of dollars in hardware replacements and complex enterprise licensing.
With [AegisGates Vision AI](/), you can transform your existing Hikvision IP cameras or NVR into a smart AI vision system in 5 minutes for just $20/month per camera — with zero new hardware required.
Why Add AI Vision to Your Hikvision Cameras?
- Zero False Alarms: Standard PIR and pixel motion cannot distinguish between a stray cat and an intruder. AegisGates understands real-world scenes and only alerts on genuine concerns.
- Human Narrative Descriptions: Instead of a generic *"Motion Detected at 02:14 AM"*, receive rich summaries: *"A person in a dark hoodie approached the delivery loading bay and attempted to open the side door."*
- Works with Existing NVRs: Keep your on-premise Hikvision NVR for local recording while streaming sub-streams securely to AegisGates AI.
- Instant Notifications: Receive immediate alerts via Telegram, SMS, or webhook when unauthorized activity occurs.
Step 1: Log in to Your Hikvision Camera or NVR
- Find your Hikvision camera or NVR IP address using the Hikvision SADP Tool or your local router DHCP table.
- Open a web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) and navigate to
http://<your-camera-ip>. - Log in with your camera administrator username and password.
Step 2: Enable ONVIF & Create a Media User
- In the top navigation menu, click Configuration.
- In the left-hand sidebar, navigate to Network → Advanced Settings → Integration Protocol.
- Check the box to Enable ONVIF (or Open Network Video Interface on newer firmware).
- Click Add under the ONVIF User list.
- Create a dedicated user for AI monitoring:
aegisgate
* Password: Create a strong password (minimum 8 characters with numbers and symbols)
* Level: Select Media User or Operator
- Click OK, then click Save at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3: Verify Your RTSP Port & Stream Path
Hikvision standard RTSP operates on port 554 by default. (If you need general background on RTSP configuration, see our comprehensive RTSP setup guide).
- Navigate to Configuration → Network → Basic Settings → Port.
- Verify that RTSP Port is set to
554. - The standard Hikvision RTSP stream URL format is:
rtsp://<username>:<password>@<camera-ip>:554/Streaming/Channels/101
* Sub Stream (Optimized for AI Analytics):
rtsp://<username>:<password>@<camera-ip>:554/Streaming/Channels/102
*Tip: For multiple channels on a Hikvision NVR, the channel number reflects the camera index (Channel 1 is 101 / 102, Channel 2 is 201 / 202, etc.).*
Step 4: Test the Stream Locally
Before connecting to AegisGates, verify that your RTSP stream is accessible:
- Open VLC Media Player.
- Go to Media → Open Network Stream (Ctrl + N).
- Paste your RTSP URL:
rtsp://aegisgate:[email protected]:554/Streaming/Channels/102. - Click Play. If the video feeds smoothly, your RTSP server is working properly.
Step 5: Connect to AegisGates Vision AI in 5 Minutes
- Log in to your AegisGates Dashboard.
- Click Add New Camera.
- Select Hikvision from the brand list.
- Enter your camera stream details (RTSP URL or IP, port, and credentials).
- Configure your Special Attentions (e.g., *"Alert immediately if anyone lingers near the back loading dock for more than 2 minutes"*).
- Save and activate. Your camera is now monitored by intelligent AI vision!
